Schloss Wolfegg
Wolfegg, Germany, Germany
Schloss Wolfegg is a Renaissance castle next to the town of Wolfegg in Upper Swabia, Baden‑Württemberg, southern Germany, and has been the ancestral seat of the princely House of Waldburg‑Wolfegg since the 16th century.
The main building forms a rectangular complex with four wings and corner towers, originally built after an earlier castle on the site burned in 1578 and subsequently damaged again by Swedish troops in 1646, with later rebuilding and interior Baroque and Rococo decoration through the 17th and 18th centuries.
The castle remains in private noble ownership and is normally not open to the public, but it stages occasional concerts and special events during which visitors can see rooms such as the richly decorated Rittersaal with its life‑sized wood sculptures and large mirrors, as well as the Wolfegger Kabinett, a major collection of medieval and Renaissance graphic art and historical books.
