Schloss Zandt

Schloss Zandt is a historic castle in the Bavarian village of Zandt, with roots that trace back to the Middle Ages.

Historical records mention the local noble family of Zandt as early as 1122, and by 1527 the estate already included a stone castle, chapel, inn, forge, and other buildings, making it the center of the local manor. The present castle was largely built in the 16th century and features a distinctive rectangular design with corner towers and a prominent octagonal tower.

For centuries it served as the seat of the local Hofmark and was associated with several noble families, including the powerful Sattelboger and Gleißenthal families. After changing ownership in the late 19th century, the castle was adapted for social care purposes. Since 1949 it has been used as a nursing and residential care facility, while remaining one of Zandt’s most recognizable historic landmarks and an important part of the community’s heritage.
