Schloss zu Hopferau is a historic castle in the village of Hopferau in Bavaria’s Allgäu region.

Originally built in 1468 by Knight Sigmund von Freyberg-Eisenberg as a hunting lodge and noble residence, it is considered one of the oldest preserved castles in the Ostallgäu area. Over the centuries, the castle was expanded and remodeled, most notably in the 1830s when architect Domenico Quaglio gave it its distinctive neo-Gothic appearance.

The building contains several historic features, including a grand hall, a chapel, and valuable decorative interiors. The castle is also notable for its connection to computer pioneer Konrad Zuse, who operated his groundbreaking Z4 computer there after World War II. Today, Schloss zu Hopferau functions as a hotel, restaurant, and event venue, combining historical charm with modern hospitality while remaining an important cultural landmark in the Allgäu region.
