Schönbusch Palace
Aschaffenburg, Germany, Germany
Schönbusch Palace is a small Neoclassical summer residence located in the Schönbusch Park near Aschaffenburg, Bavaria. Built between 1778 and 1782 for the Archbishop-Elector of Mainz, it was designed by architect Emanuel Joseph von Herigoyen and forms part of one of the earliest English landscape gardens created in southern Germany. The palace was designed as an elegant retreat rather than a defensive castle. Its interiors feature beautifully preserved Louis XVI-style furnishings and decorative elements that reflect aristocratic life in the late 18th century. Today, Schönbusch Palace is surrounded by a picturesque park with lakes, bridges, pavilions, and landscaped gardens that are open to the public. Together, the palace and park are among Aschaffenburg’s most admired cultural attractions, offering visitors a peaceful blend of history, architecture, and nature.
