Siewierz is a town in southern Poland's Silesian Voivodeship, located on the Czarna Przemsza River in the historic Duchy of Siewierz, about 30 km north of Katowice, first mentioned in 1125 as a fortified settlement under the Bytom castellany.

Granted town rights around 1276, it became the seat of Piast dukes like Mieszko IV Tanglefoot in 1177, suffering Mongol destruction in 1241 before the 13th-century wooden stronghold evolved into a Gothic brick castle on an artificial hill with a cylindrical tower, perimeter walls, and later Renaissance expansions by Kraków bishops after Zbigniew Oleśnicki purchased it in 1443.

The bishops' stronghold—featuring a gate tower, residential wings, and artillery terrace—declined after Swedish Deluge devastation in 1655-1660, with final abandonment by 1800, leaving picturesque ruins today that house a museum amid the town's medieval market square and parish church.
