Smoleń is a village in southern Poland's Silesian Voivodeship, in Zawiercie County within Gmina Pilica, perched on a limestone hill amid the Polish Jura landscape near Pilica, renowned for the Gothic ruins of the 14th-century Pilecki family castle first documented in 1394.

Likely founded around 1341-1347 by Janusz Pilecki or his father Otto as a seat for the powerful Toporczyk clan, it featured upper and lower fortifications with a residential tower, chapel to the Virgin Mary, and defensive walls expanded in the 15th century under Leliwite owners before passing to Bishop Filip Padniewski in 1570, who abandoned it for a nearby mansion.

Captured and damaged by Austrian forces in 1587, it further deteriorated after Swedish destruction during the 1655 Deluge, with later partial demolitions under Austrian rule sealing its fate as overgrown ruins—including a 16-meter tower, lower castle gates, and perimeter walls—now revitalized as a tourist site within a nature reserve.
