The Sopron Mountains are a forested low mountain range in western Hungary along the Austrian border, forming the easternmost extension of the Alps.

The area is known for its subalpine climate, rolling hills, and extensive woodlands, which create a landscape that is quite different from much of the rest of Hungary. The mountains are rich in biodiversity, with beech, oak, chestnut, and spruce forests that provide habitat for many plant and animal species, including several with Alpine origins.

Much of the range is protected as part of the Sopron Landscape Protection Area and is closely connected to the nearby Fertő-Hanság National Park. Today, the Sopron Mountains are a popular destination for hiking, cycling, nature walks, and scenic viewpoints. Their proximity to the historic city of Sopron and Lake Fertő makes them one of Hungary’s most attractive regions for outdoor recreation and nature tourism.
