St Andrews Botanic Garden
St Andrews, Scotland, United Kingdom
St Andrews Botanic Garden is an 18‑acre botanical garden on the southern edge of the town of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland, set along the wooded Kinness Burn in the Canongate area.
Founded by the University of St Andrews in 1889, it is one of the oldest botanic gardens in Scotland and now holds more than 8,000 plant species, including native Scottish plants, specialist collections such as Chinese and Chilean flora, and notable groups of cotoneaster, berberis, and sorbus.
The garden is laid out in a mix of woodland, meadow, shrubbery, rockery, ponds, and two large greenhouses that display tropical plants, cacti, and alpines, and it serves both as a place for quiet strolling and wildlife watching and as a living research and education site for the university, the local community, and visiting garden lovers.
