St. George's Caye is a small, historic island located about eight miles off the coast of Belize City, known as the first capital of Belize in the 1700s. It played a crucial role in Belize's history, most famously as the site of the 1798 Battle of St. George's Caye, where British settlers and their allies defeated the Spanish, securing Belize as a British territory.

The island has a very small permanent population and offers a peaceful atmosphere with no cars or electricity, relying on solar power and generators. Visitors enjoy tranquil seaside cottages, outstanding seafood, and various water activities such as snorkeling, diving, sailing, and kayaking in the surrounding waters. St. George's Caye is also home to a resort and an aquarium, highlighting both its natural beauty and cultural significance.

The battle won there is celebrated annually on September 10 as a national holiday in Belize.
