Stadtschloss Herrieden is a historic castle complex in the old town of Herrieden, Bavaria, with origins dating back to the early 12th century. First mentioned in 1122, it served as the residence of local nobles and administrators connected to the Bishopric of Eichstätt and formed an important part of the town’s defensive system. Over the centuries, the castle was repeatedly damaged by warfare, fires, and other disasters, including destruction during conflicts in 1316 and again during the Thirty Years’ War in 1633. Despite these setbacks, it was rebuilt several times and remained a prominent landmark in Herrieden. Today, the restored Stadtschloss serves as a cultural and event venue, combining historic architecture with modern community use. Its preserved walls, towers, and courtyards offer visitors a glimpse into nearly 900 years of local history and make it one of Herrieden’s most significant heritage sites.
