Stauffenberg-Schloss
Albstadt, Germany, Germany
Stauffenberg‑Schloss is a historic castle in Albstadt‑Lautlingen in Baden‑Württemberg, Germany, that has served as the ancestral seat of the Stauffenberg family since 1625.
The medieval complex became widely known as the family home of the resistance figures Berthold and Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, who spent much of their childhood and youth there after 1918. Claus recovered from his severe war injuries in the summer of 1943 at the castle, where he and his brother Berthold drafted political ideas criticizing National Socialism that later became known as the “Lautlinger Leitsätze.”
Since the 1970s the Schloss has been owned by the local community, and since 2007 it has housed the Stauffenberg‑Gedenkstätte, a permanent exhibition on Claus von Stauffenberg’s life and his path from a supporter to an active opponent of the Nazi regime, complemented by a musikhistorische collection in the same building.
