Streitburg Castle

Wiesenttal, Germany, Germany

---

Streitburg Castle is a medieval castle ruin located on a rocky hill above the village of Streitberg in Wiesenttal, Bavaria.

Built before 1120, it was the ancestral seat of the noble Lords of Streitberg and occupied a strategic position overlooking the Wiesent Valley, directly opposite the famous Neideck Castle. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times and was affected by wars, sieges, and periods of decline.

Although parts of the fortress were rebuilt and strengthened, much of the structure gradually fell into ruin, with stones later being reused for local construction projects. Today, the restored ruins are freely accessible and are a popular destination for hikers and history enthusiasts. The site offers impressive views across Franconian Switzerland and provides a fascinating glimpse into the region’s medieval past.
