Suhlburg
Untermünkheim, Germany, Germany
Suhlburg, also known as Sulburg, was a medieval hilltop castle located above the Schmiedbach Valley near the village of Suhlburg in the municipality of Untermünkheim, Baden-Württemberg.
It was likely built in the late 14th century by members of the influential Sulmeister family from nearby Schwäbisch Hall and was first mentioned in historical records in 1430. The castle later became the seat of the noble Senft von Suhlburg family, who expanded and completed the fortification in the early 16th century. However, a major fire in 1534 destroyed much of the castle, and attempts to rebuild it were unsuccessful.
The ruined property was eventually sold to the Counts of Hohenlohe. Today, the castle itself has disappeared, and only earthworks, foundation remains, and traces of the former moat survive. Although little of the structure remains visible, Suhlburg is an important historical site that reflects the medieval noble heritage of the Untermünkheim region.
