Sulzburg Castle
Lenningen, Germany, Germany
Sulzburg Castle is a late medieval castle ruin located on a hill above Unterlenningen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
The castle was first mentioned in historical records in 1335 and is believed to have been built by the noble family of Neidlingen. It later became a fief of Württemberg and played an important role in the region's medieval history. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was occupied and destroyed by imperial troops in 1634, although it was later rebuilt and remained inhabited for several decades.
By the 18th century it had fallen into disrepair, and parts of the structure were dismantled before preservation efforts in the 1960s stabilized the remaining ruins. Today, visitors can explore the preserved walls, gateways, and foundations of the former fortress while enjoying views over the Lenningen Valley. The ruin is easily reached on foot from Unterlenningen and is a popular destination for hikers, history enthusiasts, and those exploring the Swabian Alb region.
