Susiec
Poland, Poland
Susiec is a village and popular holiday resort in southeastern Poland's Lublin Voivodeship, in Tomaszów Lubelski County, serving as the seat of Gmina Susiec amid the scenic Roztocze region at about 260 meters elevation near the Puszcza Solska Landscape Park.
First noted in 1582 for mills on the Łosiniecki Stream and later for an iron smelter relocated there in 1643 by Zamoyski ordynat Jan "Sobiepan," it developed with a glassworks in 1791, four mills, a cloth fulling mill, inns, and a brewery, absorbing the nearby Skwarki village by 1989.
A wooden church built around 1800 was replaced by a brick one mid-19th century, drawing from legends of a nearby Basilian monastery ruin called "Kościółek," while its sandy soils and forests support hiking, biking, and nature tourism today.
