Syców is a town in southwestern Poland's Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in Oleśnica County, located on the border between Lower Silesia and Greater Poland along the Polska Woda River, about 25 km north of Oleśnica and 60 km northeast of Wrocław, with around 10,000 residents.

First mentioned in 1276 as Syczowe in a document by Duke Henryk IV Probus, it originated as a Slavic gord possibly owned by a figure named Syc, later becoming a Piast stronghold and trade hub granted town rights before 1312 under the Dukes of Oleśnica.

After Bohemian suzerainty in 1329 and Hungarian control under Matthias Corvinus from 1489—who established it as Syców/Wartenberg state country enfeoffed to the Haugwitz family—it passed through noble hands including the Birons until Prussian annexation in 1742, thriving on flax, cloth production, and fairs while hosting postal routes for Polish kings.

A center of linen making with a historic market square, Gothic church from the 13th century, and town hall, it returned to Poland post-1945, preserving its medieval layout and cultural heritage.
