Szársomlyó is a striking limestone hill near Nagyharsány in southern Hungary and the highest peak of the Villány Hills, rising to 442 meters.

Known locally as the “Devil’s Ploughed Hill,” it stands out for its rocky slopes, dramatic scenery, and panoramic views over the surrounding wine region. The hill is a protected nature reserve within the Danube-Dráva National Park and is famous for its rare wildlife and unique sub-Mediterranean climate. Many uncommon plant and animal species live here, including some that are found nowhere else in Hungary.

Szársomlyó also has a rich history. The area has been inhabited for thousands of years, the Romans helped establish local winemaking traditions, and the remains of a medieval castle can still be seen on the summit. The surrounding slopes are closely linked to the renowned Villány wine region. Because of its environmental importance, access to the hill is carefully managed, often through guided visits, allowing visitors to enjoy its natural beauty while helping protect its fragile ecosystem.
