Szubin is a historic town in Poland's Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, first documented in 1365 and established as a noble private town around 1434 by Sędziwój Pałuka near the Gąsawka River, featuring remnants of a medieval castle and the Gothic St. Martin's Church from the 14th century.

Owned by prominent Polish families like the Mycielskis and Opalińskis—who granted privileges in 1645—it endured Prussian annexation during the 1772-1795 Partitions, brief inclusion in the Duchy of Warsaw (1807-1815), and heavy fighting in the 1919 Greater Poland Uprising that secured its return to Poland.

During World War II under German occupation as part of Reichsgau Wartheland, it hosted Oflag 64 POW camp for Allied officers and saw expulsions of Poles alongside Intelligenzaktion executions before Soviet liberation in 1945.
