Szymbark
Poland, Poland
Szymbark is a village in southern Poland's Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in Gorlice County near the Nowy Sącz-Krosno road, about 6 km from Gorlice, first documented in 1369 as a settlement established mid-14th century under German law granted by King Casimir the Great to the Gładysz noble family.
It served as the center of the Gładysz clan's "dominium Ropa" power base, featuring a defensive manor house built around 1540 that survived Hungarian destruction in 1657 and Bar Confederation battles under Kazimierz Pułaski in 1768-1772, later passing to Strońscy, Siedleccy, and Bronikowski families amid regional conflicts.
Today, the preserved Renaissance-style manor stands as a key historical landmark surrounded by forested hills, reflecting the area's knightly heritage and turbulent past.
