Terme di Stigliano
Canale Monterano, Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Italy, Italy
Terme di Stigliano is a historic thermal spa resort and wellness destination located in Canale Monterano, about 50 kilometers northwest of Rome in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Italy, nestled in the beautiful Tuscia region between the hills of Canale Monterano and Tolfa within the Monterano Natural Reserve.
The resort features an enormous 20-hectare thermal park surrounded by lush greenery, offering thermal pools and wellness paths inspired by Ancient Rome, making it ideal for those seeking regeneration and relaxation just a short distance from the capital. The spa is renowned for its hyperthermal sulphur-iodine mineral waters that emerge from five natural sources at temperatures exceeding 36°C and reaching up to 94°C, which are among the richest in iodine in Europe and are celebrated for their therapeutic properties effective against rheumatism, joint pain, skin diseases, respiratory ailments like rhinitis, otitis, and sinusitis, osteoporosis, and obesity.
The facility was already appreciated by the Etruscs for its saline-iodine and sulphurous springs, but was later developed and exploited by the Romans, as evidenced by important archaeological remains of thermal and residential structures, and the current resort was built in the 1700s by the Altieri Princes on the site of ancient Roman temples.
