Teza Tea Plantations
Muramvya Province, Burundi
Teza Tea Plantations are one of Burundi’s oldest and most emblematic tea estates, covering about 600 hectares on the slopes of Teza Mountain in Muramvya Province, near the edge of the Kibira forest in the Burundian highlands. The plantation lies at over 2,000 meters above sea level, where cool, misty conditions and rich volcanic soils create ideal circumstances for growing high‑quality tea, especially Orthodox‑style leaf. Operated through the Burundi Tea Office (OTB), Teza not only serves as an important agricultural and export site but has also become a small‑scale nature and cultural attraction, drawing visitors for tea‑estate tours, tastings, and hikes or walks through the rolling green hills and nearby trails. The area combines working‑farm scenery with views of the mist‑shrouded peaks and forest, offering a quiet, rural experience less than three hours by road from the capital Bujumbura.
