The Castle of Grassalkovich in Hatvan is a grand Baroque palace located in the center of Hatvan, about 60 kilometers east of Budapest.

It was commissioned by Count Antal Grassalkovich I, one of the most influential Hungarian noblemen of the 18th century, and was built between the 1750s and 1760s on the site of an earlier medieval fortress. Over the centuries, the palace passed through several owners, including the Hatvany-Deutsch family, who modernized parts of the building and transformed it into an elegant residence.

Although it suffered damage and neglect during and after World War II, extensive restoration work later preserved its historic character. The palace is one of Hatvan’s most important architectural landmarks, featuring a symmetrical Baroque design, ornate interiors, and a landscaped park. Its history reflects both the aristocratic heritage and cultural development of the region.

Today, the restored castle houses the Széchenyi Zsigmond Hunting Museum and serves as a cultural center with exhibitions, educational programs, and events, making it a popular destination for visitors interested in Hungarian history, architecture, and nature.
