The Gibberd Garden
Harlow, United Kingdom, United Kingdom
The Gibberd Garden is a nine‑acre landscaped garden on the outskirts of Harlow in Essex, England, created by Sir Frederick Gibberd, the master planner of Harlow New Town, and his wife Patricia between the 1970s and his death in 1984.
The Grade II listed site mixes formal lawns, streams, wooded glades, a mature lime avenue, a wild‑style “wild garden,” and an arboretum, all threaded with sculptures, ceramic pots, and pieces of architectural salvage that give it a playful, modern‑sculpture‑park feel.
Part of the original 1960s Gibberd family home, known as the Gibberd Rooms, is also open to visitors and filled with authentic mid‑century furniture, drawings, and models, turning the whole place into a quiet, design‑focused retreat that blends architecture, art, and nature rather than a conventional flower‑show garden.
