Created over nearly four decades by Sir Roy Strong, a historian and former museum director, and his late wife Julia Trevelyan Oman, a distinguished set designer, the gardens transform a once bare field into a series of intricately designed garden rooms, vistas, and sculptural displays.

The garden includes features such as a rose garden, pleached lime avenue, knot garden, fountains, statuary, and topiary, all reflecting the couple’s deep involvement in the arts and their personal lives.

The Laskett tells their story creatively through horticulture, blending formal plans with artistic elements inspired by history and their artistic peers. Recognized for its uniqueness and beauty, the garden was generously donated to Perennial, a charity supporting horticulturists, in 2021 and remains open to visitors by appointment, offering a profound and intimate garden experience with an audio guide narrated by Sir Roy Strong himself.
