Tiszaigari arborétum Természetvédelmi terület
Tiszaigar, Hungary, Hungary
Tiszaigari Arborétum Természetvédelmi Terület is a nationally protected 19–20 hectare arboretum and nature reserve in Tiszaigar, Hungary, located 10 km south of Tiszafüred near Tisza Lake in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county.
Formed at the end of the 1800s on higher ground along the Tisza River in former floodplain with sediment soil, it has been protected since 1976 as one of the most significant tree collections in the Central Tisza region, housing 373 different species of trees and shrubs including native and exotic species.
The arboretum is particularly notable for its nearly 1,500 swamp cypress (mocsári ciprus) trees forming a unique forest display, along with collections of deciduous trees and conifers such as the giant sequoia (mamutfenyő), Caucasian cedar, swamp cypress, tufted oak, club mosses, tulip trees, tamaracks, feather ferns, and Colorado poplar firs.
After 1985, its collection of over 375 species met the official arboretum criteria, earning it the nickname "treasure chest of the Alföld" due to its abundance of native and exotic species. The arboretum is open year-round on paved walking paths, accessible daily from 8:00 am to 5:00–6:00 pm (hours vary by season), and includes a playground and a recently renovated guesthouse suitable for school camps and forest schools.
