Torres' Castle
Pesqueira, Brazil, Brazil
Torres' Castle (Castelo dos Torres), also known as Castelo de Pesqueira, is an imposing private castle in Pesqueira, a city in the Agreste region of Pernambuco state in northeastern Brazil.
The castle was built by Edvonaldo Torres, a local businessman and merchant, over approximately 20 years starting in 1999, expanding around his original family home. The structure spans more than 2,000 square meters and rises nearly 40 meters (about 130 feet) high across four floors.
Its architecture uniquely blends Greek, Roman, and Ionic styles, featuring an ornate decorative facade with towers, minarets, sculptures, and colorful stained-glass windows that create distinctive lighting inside. The interior includes grand rooms furnished with antique furniture, marble busts, elegant chandeliers, and porcelain pieces, along with 36 suites—one suite occupies three floors of a single tower.
The castle also has pools, a lake, and gardens, and its towers offer panoramic views of Pesqueira and surrounding areas. Originally a private residence, the castle opened to the public for guided visits in 2020 and requires scheduling ahead, with admission costing R$30 per person for a 1-hour tour. It has become one of the most important and distinctive tourist attractions in the Pernambuco Agreste region.
