Unterschneidheim is a rural municipality in the Ostalbkreis district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, home to around 4,900 residents across 68 square kilometers straddling the European main watershed where the Schneidheimer Sechta flows to the Danube and the Jagst begins toward the Rhine. Nestled 20 km east of Ellwangen near the Nördlinger Ries crater edge and Bavarian border, it encompasses 17 villages including Geislingen, Nordhausen, Unterwilflingen, Walxheim, Zipplingen, and Zöbingen, blending forested hills (up to 595 m elevation) with agricultural fields. Led by Mayor Johannes Joas (Greens) from its Ziegelhütte 25 town hall, the sparsely populated community maintains a low 3.8% unemployment rate amid its peaceful Swabian Alps landscape.
