Vinné Castle
Vinné, Slovakia, Slovakia
Vinné Castle, also known as Viniansky Hrad, is a Gothic ruin perched on a narrow volcanic andesite ridge near the village of Vinné in eastern Slovakia's Košice Region. Built in the late 13th or early 14th century by the Nagymihályi noble family to guard a vital trade route from Hungary to Poland, it endured attacks including a 1312 raid by the Omodej family and severe 1466 damage during the Polish-Hungarian War, with later 16th-century repairs by the Sztáray family. Abandoned mid-17th century for a more comfortable manor, its irregular triangular walls enclose a courtyard with remnants of two prismatic towers, a multi-story palace, chapel, gatehouse, and vaulted Gothic features amid steep natural defenses.
