Wandoor Beach
Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India
Wandoor Beach is a scenic, peaceful beach located about 25–30 km southwest of Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, renowned for its powdery white sands, turquoise waters, swaying palms and lush mangroves that stretch over 2 km.
The beach’s main attraction is that it serves as the primary gateway to the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, with Wandoor Jetty providing boat access to nearby islands like Jolly Buoy and Red Skin, which are famous for pristine beaches and vibrant coral reefs.
Swimming at Wandoor Beach itself is strictly prohibited due to the presence of saltwater crocodiles and underwater hazards, but visitors can enjoy stunning sunsets, natural rustic beauty (including fallen tree trunks from the 2004 tsunami), a Marine Interpretation Centre at the park entrance, and opportunities to observe colorful fish, sea turtles and rich marine biodiversity in the surrounding waters.
The best time to visit is from October to May, especially November to April, when the weather is pleasant with cool sea breezes, clear skies and calm seas, and the beach is easily reachable by a 45–60 minute drive from Port Blair via public bus, private cab or rented two-wheeler along a well-paved, scenic road.
