Wasserburg Entenburg
Donaueschingen, Germany, Germany
Wasserburg Entenburg, also known as Burg Entenburg or “hus zu Pforren”, is a former 15th‑century moated castle near the town of Donaueschingen in the Schwarzwald‑Baar‑Kreis of Baden‑Württemberg, Germany, located in the village of Pfohren by the upper Donau.
Built around 1471 by the Counts of Fürstenberg as a compact quadrangular water fortress with a central main building and four corner towers, it is said to have hosted Kaiser Maximilian I and is popularly associated with duck hunting on the nearby river.
Over time the moat was filled in and the castle was converted into farm and storage buildings, then largely rebuilt in 1871 and later restored in the late 1980s, so that today Entenburg stands as a private, inhabited historic manor‑like ensemble with a strongly preserved exterior appearance, visible from the roadside but generally not open to the public as a museum.
