Wasserschloss Kleinbardorf is a charming Renaissance moated castle located in the village of Kleinbardorf, part of Sulzfeld in Bavaria’s Rhön-Grabfeld district. The present castle was built in 1589 and 1590 by Heinrich von Bibra on the site of an earlier fortified residence, and it is surrounded by water-filled moats that give it its distinctive character. Over the centuries, the estate passed through the hands of several noble families, including the von Bibra and von Guttenberg families. The castle was renovated and modified in the 18th century and later carefully restored as a private residence after years of decline. Today, the well-preserved castle remains privately owned by the Hofer family. Surrounded by landscaped grounds, contemporary artworks, and a sculpture garden, it combines historic architecture with modern cultural elements and is one of the most picturesque landmarks in the region.
