Wasserschloss Poltringen
Ammerbuch, Germany, Germany
Wasserschloss Poltringen is a striking Renaissance moated castle in Ammerbuch-Poltringen near Tübingen, Germany, originally a medieval pile-dwelling fortress from around 1000 that was rebuilt in 1613 by Württemberg architect Heinrich Schickhardt into its current four-winged form with corner towers and a square courtyard.
Celebrated as one of the Ammertal's finest landmarks and the only Schickhardt design largely intact, it features associated buildings like a vast castle barn, former mill, and office house, passing through noble owners before entering community possession in 1890 and later private hands.
Today, it houses 14 private apartments after renovations, with the adjacent mill now a shop and event space, though visitors can only admire its exterior and scenic grounds.
