Weilerburg (Tailfingen)
Albstadt, Germany, Germany
Weilerburg (Tailfingen) is the remnant of a small medieval spur castle built around 1100 by the Lords of Weilersburg on a rocky spur at 850 meters elevation, about 3.25 km northeast of Tailfingen's Peterskirche in Albstadt's Zollernalbkreis, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
First documented in 1113 alongside a now-abandoned settlement called Weiler and its associated mill (noted as Wilermülin in 1445), it features a pentagonal residential tower on a 60x16 meter base, with surviving low wall stubs, a moat, and rampart amid overgrown terrain best visited in spring, late fall, or winter.
Archaeological evidence points to a prehistoric refuge predating the high medieval structure, evidenced by Bronze Age finds and Iron Age-style earthworks, while medieval artifacts like nails and weapons suggest a destructive fire; the noble family faded by the 14th century.
