Werenwag Schloss
Germany, Germany
Werenwag Schloss, also known as Schloss Werenwag, is a striking medieval castle perched on a narrow rocky spur high above the Upper Danube Valley near Beuron in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Built around 1100 during the High Middle Ages as a fortified seat for the Lords of Werenwag and later owned by the Fürstenberg family from 1629-1721 and again since 1830, it features a classic keep, curtain walls, and a bridge-access design that blends seamlessly with sheer cliffs, surviving a 1911 earthquake with repairs.
Today privately owned and inhabited, it remains inaccessible to the public but captivates hikers and photographers with dramatic views over the Swabian Jura and Danube, serving as a picturesque landmark in the nature park.
