Wieruszyce
Poland, Poland
Wieruszyce is a small village in southern Poland's Lesser Poland Voivodeship, within Brzesko County and Gmina Szczurowa, perched on a hill above the Stradomka River.
Granted to the Drużynitów knights of the Szreniawa coat of arms by King Władysław Łokietek in 1306, it features a rare preserved late Gothic-Renaissance defensive manor built around 1531 by Wincenty Wieruski as a two-story stone-brick structure with a massive cylindrical corner tower guarding the entrance.
Later remodeled by Jan Wieruski with Renaissance portals, window frames bearing the family herb, and a southern loggia overlooking an Italian-style terraced garden, it stayed with the Wieruski family until the mid-17th century before conversion to a granary by new owners, partial ruin, and 1981 private restoration by architect Marek Skrzyński into a historic residence.
