Yangon Zoo
Yangon, Myanmar (Burma), Myanmar
Yangon Zoo, officially known as Yangon Zoological Gardens, is the oldest and one of the largest zoos in Myanmar, located in the heart of Yangon near Kandawgyi Lake and not far from the Shwedagon Pagoda. Opened in 1906 as Victoria Memorial Park, it covers roughly 70 acres and houses around 1,100–1,400 animals from about 130–200 species, including mammals, birds, and reptiles such as elephants, tigers, hippos, bears, and various deer. The site also includes a natural‑history museum, an aquarium, and a small amusement area, making it a popular family destination where visitors can walk under big shady trees, see animal shows on weekends, and enjoy a relaxed day out in the city centre.
