Ząbkowice Śląskie is a historic town in southwestern Poland's Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in Ząbkowice Śląskie County, strategically located at the crossroads of trade routes from Wrocław to Prague and Nysa to Świdnica.
Founded around 1280 near the old Polish settlement of Sadlno during the Piast dynasty under Henry IV Probus, it received municipal rights by 1287 as Frankenstein and prospered with privileges like salt and lead staple rights granted by Duke Bolko I in 1295.
A key medieval center with early fortifications, a castle from the 1320s, town hall, and glassworks, it passed to Bohemian rule in 1351, later Habsburg and Prussian control, before rejoining Poland post-1945; today it's famed for its leaning Frankenstein Tower.
