Zádorvár is a medieval castle ruin located on a wooded hill above Pécsely in the Balaton Highlands of western Hungary.

Built in the late 14th century, it was intended to serve as a fortified noble residence and featured defensive walls, a chapel, a gate tower, and residential buildings. Unlike many Hungarian castles that were destroyed during wars or sieges, Zádorvár was abandoned because of a long-running land ownership dispute.

The families who built and occupied it were ultimately forced to leave, and the castle gradually fell into ruin without ever playing a major military role. The site is especially valuable because its remains largely reflect the castle’s original medieval layout, having undergone few later alterations. Archaeological excavations have also uncovered evidence of much older human activity, including prehistoric workshop remains beneath the castle area.

Today, Zádorvár is a peaceful historical attraction popular with hikers and history enthusiasts. Visitors can explore the ruins and enjoy impressive views over the Pécsely Basin, Lake Balaton, and the Tihany Peninsula.
