Zamek Homole
Lewin Kłodzki, Poland, Poland
Zamek Homole near Lewin Kłodzki in southwestern Poland's Kłodzko Land is a ruined 13th-14th century Gothic fortress perched on Gomoła hill (733m) in the Lewińskie Hills, guarding the strategic Polskie Wrota pass on the historic Amber Road trade route.
First documented in 1327 as Landfried and built around 1350 by Tyszko (Ticzko) Panwitz with thick stone walls and a prominent cylindrical tower, it became a Hussite stronghold from 1428 under leaders like Jan Holec and Mikuláš Trčka, enduring sieges until recaptured in 1434 and later ruled by figures such as Jan Kolda and Hynk Krušina.
By 1477, it formed the core of the short-lived "Homolskie państewko" (Homole statelet) under Czech king George of Poděbrady, passing through owners until cesarian seizure in 1534 and abandonment, leaving today only a tower fragment, wall remnants, and underground chamber amid a Natura 2000 nature trail.
