Zamek w Głogówku
Głogówek, Poland, Poland
Zamek w Głogówku, located in the town of Głogówek in Opole Voivodeship, Poland, originated as a late 13th-century Gothic defensive residence built by Prince Bolesław I of Opole, featuring an initial residential tower that controlled the town founded around 1275. Acquired by the Oppersdorff family in 1561, it underwent major Renaissance reconstruction from 1562-1571, demolishing Gothic elements to create a three-wing upper castle with a chapel and later additions like corner towers (1584-1606) and a lower castle on the former bailey site around 1606, blending mannerist and Baroque styles. Further expanded in the 17th century despite Thirty Years' War damage, including arcades, a grand portal with family arms, and interiors like a library and print shop, it remains a preserved noble residence and museum today.
