Zen Zentrum Schönböken - Mokushozan Jakkoji
Ruhwinkel, Germany, Germany
Zen Zentrum Schönböken, also known as Mokushôzan Jakkôji, is a Zen Buddhist center in Schönböken near Ruhwinkel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, housed in a former noble manor estate founded in 1805 by a wealthy Hamburg citizen.
The property endured a turbulent history over nearly two centuries before the Zen-Vereinigung Deutschland acquired the Herrenhaus and Torhaus in 1989, transforming it into their primary venue for intensive Zen sesshins, zazen meditation sessions, and retreats led by Zen master L. Tenryû Tenbreul in the Soto Zen tradition.
Previously used as a training center for civil defense from 1962-1988, it now offers regular practices like Tuesday and Wednesday evening zazen, welcoming newcomers amid serene rural surroundings between Neumünster and Plön.
