Verified Zengő

Hosszúhetény, Hungary, Hungary

Zengő is the highest peak of the Mecsek Mountains in southern Hungary, rising to 682 meters near the village of Hosszúhetény.

Covered by extensive forests, it is one of the most important natural landmarks in the region and offers sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. The mountain is known for its rich wildlife, rare plant species, and protected natural habitats. It gained national attention in the 2000s when plans to build.

A NATO radar station on the summit were abandoned after strong environmental opposition aimed at protecting its unique ecosystem. Visitors can reach the summit by hiking trails from nearby villages such as Hosszúhetény and Pécsvárad. At the top, a modern lookout tower provides panoramic views, while nearby ruins of a small medieval castle add historical interest to this popular destination.
