Ziębice is a historic town in southwestern Poland's Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in Ząbkowice Śląskie County, with around 8,700 residents.
First mentioned in 1234 as the Slavic settlement Sambice, it was destroyed by Mongol invaders in 1241 and refounded around 1250 with German town rights by Duke Henry III of Wrocław, later becoming the capital of an independent Piast duchy from 1322 to 1428.
The town features a well-preserved medieval market square, remnants of a 13th-14th century Gothic church, castle ruins from the late 13th century, and fortifications; it passed through Czech, Prussian, and German rule before returning to Poland in 1945.
