Cabo Verde
Cabo Verde, also known as Cape Verde, is an island nation in the central Atlantic Ocean, located about 500 kilometers off the west coast of Africa. The archipelago consists of ten volcanic islands, most of which are mountainous. The capital city is Praia, on Santiago island. Cabo Verde’s official language is Portuguese, and the population is around 560,000.
The country has limited natural resources and little arable land and is prone to drought, leading to heavy emigration; remittances from abroad are vital to the economy. Politically, Cabo Verde is widely recognized for its stability and multi-party democracy after independence from Portugal in 1975. Tourism, fisheries, and services are the main sectors of the economy.
