Laos
Laos, officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic, is the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by Myanmar, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. The country has a population of around eight million, with Vientiane as the capital city.
The landscape consists mostly of mountains, river valleys, and forested regions, including the Mekong River, which runs along its western border. Laos traces its roots to the Lan Xang kingdom, later becoming part of French Indochina before gaining independence in 1953.
The official language is Lao, and the majority religion is Theravada Buddhism. Agriculture, especially rice cultivation, remains central to the economy and culture, and the country is noted for its ethnic diversity with over 130 groups.
