North Macedonia
North Macedonia is a landlocked country in Southeastern Europe, situated on the Balkan Peninsula and bordered by Kosovo and Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. The capital and largest city is Skopje.
The country has a population of about 1.8–2.1 million, with ethnic Macedonians as the majority and Albanians as the largest minority group. North Macedonia is a parliamentary republic and a member of NATO. Its history includes periods under ancient, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, and Yugoslav rule before it became independent in 1991 following the breakup of Yugoslavia.
