Apponyiho kaštieľ in Malinovo, Slovakia, originated as a medieval water fortress first mentioned in 1209, built by the Svätý Jur counts between 1344 and 1385 to guard a crossing over the Malý Dunaj river on Žitný ostrov, featuring three towers and a moat. In the 17th century, Archbishop Szelepcsényi rebuilt it into a Renaissance manor, adding a chapel dated 1677 with his coat of arms, before the Apponyi family gave it a Classical makeover in the 19th century, resulting in a two-story four-winged structure around a courtyard with semicircular corner bays, a central risalit on the main facade, and a tympanon. Surrounded by an extensive English landscape park of nearly 5 hectares with over 200 species of rare native and exotic trees dating back to the early 18th century, it now houses a horticultural high school while the publicly accessible park offers a serene spot for walks.
