The Basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Mariánska hora above Levoča is one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in Slovakia. Its origins date back to the 13th century, and the present Neo-Gothic basilica was built between 1906 and 1922 on a hill overlooking the town and surrounding countryside. The basilica is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims each year, especially during the annual pilgrimage held around the Feast of the Visitation in early July. In 1984, it was granted the status of a minor basilica, and Pope John Paul II visited the site in 1995, further enhancing its religious significance. Known for its deep spiritual heritage, beautiful hilltop setting, and long-standing pilgrimage tradition, the Basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary remains one of the most cherished religious landmarks in Central Europe.
