Burgajet Castle
Albania, Albania
Burgajet Castle, also known as Kalaja e Burgajetit, was a large fortified house in the village of Burgajet in northern Mat, Albania.
Built before 1860, it served as the family seat and birthplace of Ahmet Zogu, who later became King Zog I of Albania in 1928. The castle featured a solid rectangular structure with wings around a courtyard, fancy Austrian furnishings, and glazed windows that marked it as a symbol of wealth among local chieftains, but it fell into ruin after being looted in 1920 and was fully demolished in 1945, leaving only marble stones at the site.
