Krásna Hôrka Castle in Krásnohorské Podhradie, Slovakia, is a Gothic castle built around 1320 by the Mariássy family atop a basalt hill overlooking the Rožňava Basin, first documented in 1333 amid property disputes. Originally featuring a quadrangular tower and defensive walls, it was fortified in the 16th century with Renaissance bastions, cannon terraces, and a triangular outer circuit to counter Turkish threats under the Bebek family, who owned it until the mid-1500s. The Andrássy family acquired it in 1642, adding late-Renaissance palaces, a Baroque-Classicist chapel with a Black Madonna icon, and residential interiors, transforming it into a noble seat while preserving its well-maintained state as one of Slovakia's most intact castles housing a museum of arms, furniture, and regional history.
